20 Lessons I’ve Learned In 20 Years

Hi Friends!

I’ve been celebrating being 20 for eight days now. Relishing in the fact that my teenage years are over, and my twenties have begun. I have really got to thinking. Two decades comes with a lot of knowledge. A lot of life lessons that really impacted my life. What turned me into the person that I am today. I thought I might just share those life lessons with you all today.

20 Life Lessons021

  1. Not everyone will be your friend. People will dislike you just for the purpose of not liking you.
  2. Those people that dislike you may try to get to you, but you have the power not to let them. If you don’t acknowledge them, they’ll become irrelevant in a blink of an eye.
  3. Life isn’t fair.
  4. Don’t waste your life away by hating others. Life is too short.
  5. It’s okay to cry. Sometimes it’s just the right medicine.
  6. Life is supposed to be fun. Don’t waste time being so serious.
  7. Save your money. You might want to travel some day instead of spending that money on clothes you won’t wear for more than a few months.
  8. But don’t feel bad if you want to buy yourself a fro-yo after a long day at school or work. Reward yourself occasionally for putting in all that work.
  9. Don’t judge others so quickly. You may think you know them, but you make also be completely misunderstanding the vibes they give out.
  10. Don’t act on your judgment. You may believe whatever you believe, but it’s rude to insult someone because they support what you don’t believe in. If it’s not hurting anyone, why is it any of your business as to what they are doing?
  11. You don’t have to follow the crowd. Everyone around you is getting engaged/married/having kids. It doesn’t mean you have to. You’re in college for goodness sake. Think about your career now.
  12. Leave the pity party ASAP. Life’s to short to throw yourself a pity party when things don’t go as planned.
  13. You’re strong. You can get through any curve ball life throws at you.
  14. Don’t settle for ‘no’. Just because a job opportunity tells you no, doesn’t mean you can’t get another job. Keep trying.
  15. Be crazy today. Go out while it’s pouring, and dance in the rain. You have all the time in the world to be crazy. You don’t have to grow into a serious adult who wears suits, and has no time to party.
  16. The world may seem like it’s ending now, but will this matter in a year or two?
  17. Take on the adventure. You have all the time in the world to sit at home and watch Netflix, but don’t miss on an adventure.
  18. Friends will come and go in life. Don’t settle for someone who doesn’t value you as much as you value them. Make new life long friends.
  19. Anxiety is real. No matter how many people tell you it’ll all be okay, sometimes your brain won’t agree with that. It’s okay. You’re not alone. Anxiety is real.
  20. Your life is a gift. Cherish it. Once it’s over, it’s over. You don’t get second chances. Live your life to the fullest.

The Big Deal About Turning 20

Hi Friends!

Have you ever had one of those days where you wake up, and don’t have any thoughts as to what the date is? Either you don’t care to know, or you just don’t know in general. That was me this morning.¬†Waking up to my peaceful room, and just laying there in those few moments before I grab my phone. I would normally plan to scroll through Instagram, check my Twitter, and Snapchat. Maybe even Facebook if I wasn’t really wanting to get up anytime soon.

Is turning 20 that big of a deal?020

However, for once in my life on my birthday, I managed to actually remember that 20 years ago today my life begun. Two whole decades have gone by, and here I am. Many of the birthday’s I’ve had seemed like a much bigger deal than the one today. For example, 13, I became a teenager, 15, I could get my learners permit, 16, I could actually drive, 18, becoming an adult. And so on. This morning when I remembered that it was my birthday, it got me thinking. Is turning 20 that big of a deal?

My answer is yes. Sure, you don’t really get to say you can legally do this and that. Because 18 and 21 are the magic ages where you can legally start doing things you couldn’t before. But you are celebrating making it another decade on this beautiful planet. You are celebrating the fact that you no longer classify as a teenager. Both things are big accomplishments in life.

Celebrate

No longer being called a teenager is a big enough celebration on it’s own. Yes, what is this difference between now and yesterday? I’m still the same person, just another day older. The difference is, I believe after two full years of college, and starting on a third, is that my ideas have changed. The sad part is that when older adults think of teens, they think immature. Something that is increasingly bothering to someone who has had to grow up a lot earlier than most teenagers out there. Yes, it may not be a big deal to some, and some actually don’t mature until a lot later in life. But for those of us who started early, no longer being classified as a teenager is a big deal.

Most importantly, celebrate your life. Living two decades for me is one of the happiest thoughts I could have. People I went to school with didn’t get to make it to twenty before their life was ended. There are children who don’t even make it to being a teenager. Be greatful for the life you have, and celebrate that you’ve made it so far. Your life may not be perfect, but remember that you are living it.
