Is Blogmas a Thing?

Hi friends!

Photo created by me

Okay, so I’m sure those of you reading this are probably either saying “yes it’s a thing”, “no it’s not a thing”, or “who even knows if it’s a thing”. I am definetely falling into the category of “who even knows”. Sure, I could probably just google it real quick, but with the crappy internet I have right now, I’m kind of afraid to open up a new tab on my computer. Go college WiFi!

So, with the mindset of not knowing if it’s a thing or not, I am definetely interested in the idea of it. I watch Vlogmas videos on YouTube every Christmas, and they always make me super happy. I love the holiday cheer, and even if you don’t celebrate holiday’s, the happiness is always wonderful.

I think I might try it out. This is the first blog I am actually putting some effort into, and I think this could be one of those success/fail type tests. I guess we’ll just see how it goes. That is actually something I say a lot about my daily life things.

I want to go ahead and say that I have no idea what is going to come of this whole blogmas experience. I do not know what will be in each blog post, but it’ll be interesting either way. Well maybe just interesting to me, I have no idea if you all will think pictures of my cat under the Christmas tree are interesting or not. Haha!

~~~~~
I am getting kind of excited for blogmas, and I hope you all are too. Give me some suggestions for blog posts down below in the comments, and leave me your own blogs/youtube channels if you are doing blogmas(or a form of blogmas) or vlogmas. My question of the day for you all:
What are your favorite Christmas bloggers/vloggers?
Food, Shopping, and Sleep Deprivation (Thanksgiving and Black Friday)
Hi friends!
29
I hope you all had a wonderful last few days. Whether you were celebrating Thanksgiving, Black Friday shopping, or both. I have been trying to keep to a schedule of posting on Monday and Thursday each week, but with all my Thanksgiving festivities there was not enough time in the day.
It is now the weekend, and I can officially relax and unwind. Even while I am relaxing, I am reflecting back on the last few days, and it has certainly been a whirlwind. Between shopping for ingredients, baking, spending time with my family, and Black Friday shopping, I am surprised I made it out alive. Even though I am slightly sleep deprived.
Thanksgiving
Out of the holiday traditions my family has each year, Thanksgiving is one that isn’t necessarily the same each year. My family switches off on whose house we go to I feel like each year. This year, it was at my aunt’s house, and it was a lot of fun. I had initially dreaded any type of family socializing purely because I really didn’t want to listen to arguments over politics once again over Thanksgiving. I was sure that this year it would be intense after everything that has happened these past few months in politics. It turned out to not be so bad, not much about politics was said. We all just had really good food, lots of laughter and catching up, and plenty of games to play. Thanksgiving 2016 was a success.
Black Friday(Thursday)
Okay, so I am not quite sure how Black Friday shopping works in other areas, but in my area things have changed over the years. It used to be that the sales started directly at midnight. The literal start of Friday. However, in my area, they began to start moving the time up earlier on Thursday. So our Black Friday started at 6 p.m. on Thursday. Well technically about 4:30.
It was my mom, my sister, and I this year. We went to all of our favorite stores in this one particular place in Georgia. My only plan was to buy a blanket(because I am obsessed with them) from Kohl’s, but I ended up with four pairs of boots, a comforter, socks, and a blanket. Let’s not talk about the money I spent on makeup haha.
Even with the early times, it was still a fun day. We got everything we planned on getting, and the things we didn’t get we ordered online. Yes, we suffered through the lines, but there are much worse things in the world. We kept that in mind as we waited and waited. I couldn’t wait to get home at the end of the night though. I was exhausted, and was ready to eat some leftovers from our Thanksgiving lunch.
Actual Black Friday
We actually got all of our shopping done on Thursday, so we really didn’t need to go out today. However, that didn’t stop us. My sister and I got up at 5:30 a.m. to go to another shopping place nearby our house. It was only to go to the mall and see the craziness unfold there. Of course we did have the idea to look around at the stores that we didn’t go to yesterday, but we ended up not buying anything.
Most people would probably say that it was a wasted trip, and that we could have slept in for a few more hours. But it was fun to get up that early. It kind of reminded me back to four or five years ago when Black Friday was actually on a Friday, and not mid-day Thursday. That and I really wanted to go smell all the candles at Bath and Body Works.
~~~~~

Between Thanksgiving and Black Friday shopping, I have been pretty sleep deprived. But I’m feeling a bit better now. All I’m looking forward to now is finishing up my last week of classes, and take my finals and be done with another semester in college. My question of the day for you all:

What was the best part about your Thanksgiving/Black Friday experience?

Holiday Drinks at Starbucks

Hi friends!

29

Photo by me

I have an addiction. To coffee that is. More specifically Starbucks coffee, but I guess it applies to all coffee. This whole semester has been ridiculous with me having all my classes in the Social Sciences building. The very building that has a Starbucks right when you walk in the front doors. It is not like I can ignore the fact that it exists with it jumping in my face as soon as I walk in. The smell of the coffee, the signs everywhere, and the people carrying their Starbucks drinks all over. It is basically like I might as well sign my life over to Starbucks, and be in debt to them for the rest of my life.

Whenever I get to campus too early, have a long break between classes, or I stay late on campus I almost always settle down in the seats by Starbucks. It is just more convient with me having all my classes in that building. Plus when it gets really cold outside, I can stay warm inside, and not have to go outside until I have to leave. Even when I just plan to sit down by Starbucks and not buy anything, all it takes is for that smell of coffee to hit my nose. Then I am pulling out my wallet to spend more money on a drink that would probably cost me a lot less to just make at home.

The holiday drinks have been my weak spot the past couple months. In October it was the pumpkin spice latte that they brought back. Clearly I had to buy that drink in every possible form and temperature just because it was a holiday drink that they do not always have on the menu. I am not one to order something that is not on the menu, so that is pretty much the reason why I feel like I need to take advantage of it when it is on the menu. Starting at the beginning of this month, November, they started with the peppermint mocha back on their menu. That is the one drink that I have loved for years upon years of holiday drinks from Starbucks. I could drink it hot, cold, or really ice cold. When I smell that peppermint it really brings me into the holiday spirit.

My Starbucks addiction is only going to get worse, as the classes I have next semester are also all in the Social Sciences building. I probably should look into getting that rewards app on my phone. Maybe then I could save a dollar or two.

I’m addicted to Starbucks holiday drinks. My question of the day for you all:

What is your favorite holiday drink at Starbucks?

Relaxing For The Soul

Hi friends!28

My hike up Kennesaw Mountain was eventful for some much needed relaxation. I spent nearly forty minutes hiking up the mountain, and a lot of that time was me taking pictures. There was also a very long moment where I sat down on some rocks, and just stared down the mountain at all the nature around me. Usually when I hike just to hike, not to take pictures, I don’t stop at all. It actually slows one down to stop while in a steady hike, and I know that from many years of hiking. But, sometimes you just have to stop and take a picture or take in the environment. So with that in mind, I stopped a lot on my hike yesterday.

By the time I finally got up to the top, I was ready for the sight that awaited me. This was not the first time I had hiked Kennesaw Mountain, but it had been several years since the last time I was here. I knew it would have changed, even if not by that much. Once I made it up those last few stairs, I caught my breath, and turned to look out at the view. Sure enough, it was a sight to see.

Nothing is more warming to my soul than the open air, and the beautiful view to match. This view that I had at the top of the mountain was breathtaking. I could see houses and buildings in the distance, and so many trees. These trees were either green, in transition, or an array of many different fall leaf colors. The weather was still warm, and seemed to be confusing nature on if it’s really Fall or if Summer is pushing on. The sky was so incredible, as the sun was able to shine on down without a cloud in its way.

Looking at this picture I took at the top makes me feel a sense of relaxation and accomplishment. I am relaxed because the picture gives a sense of calm in this world of chaos. Even when it seems like the world is spinning out of control, it’s moments like this that remind us just how beautiful that world really is. I feel accomplished because this picture reminds me that I put in the hard work to hike all the way to the top of this mountain. I did not take the easy route, and drive up to the top of the mountain. I hiked all the way up. Nothing is more rewarding than that.

Some beauty at the top of a mountain. My question of the day for you all:

What are your favorite high spots?

Leave A Little To The Imagination

Hi friends!

024

photo of me

I went hiking on Kennesaw Mountain today after my classes ended. I needed something to help me relax in the midst of all the stressful events that are going on in my life right now. For some people when they say they like to go hiking to relax, they literally mean go hiking and that is it. Unlike those people, I look at hiking to relax a little bit differently. Yes, I enjoy the actual hike. I love walking by myself to all myself to take in my surroundings, and not have to think about all the stress for once in my life. But, I also enjoy capturing the beauty of my surroundings, and nothing gets me to relax more than beautiful sights captured in a picture. Especially when you manage to capture the beauty you see in person in the photograph.

Leave a Little to the Imagination

026

photo taken by me at Kennesaw Mountain

This bench was one that I found about a little over halfway up Kennesaw mountain. When taking a few pictures of the bench, I was deciding on the best angle to take the picture. I really was set on taking the picture from the back of the bench to get in the full view that you would get if you were the one sitting on the bench. However, when I was taking the picture like that, I just felt as if it didn’t really give much to the imagination. I know that may not make sense to most people, as a lot of times the photo is used to tell a story. To give the viewer and idea of what to expect if they were there in person. Okay, so maybe that’s not exactly true for all situations. But in this situation, I thought it would be more intriguing to not show the full view from the bench. So I chose this angle from the back and to the side.

Thus, this magical photo was born. When I look at this photo of the bench I can imagine who would be sitting there. The many different people that would pass through, and those who visited in the past. I can imagine those people, sitting on this bench, and looking out at a sight that changes with the seasons. A tree that was once there for those in the past, could have fallen before those in the present could see it. A bird could have flown down to land on a branch, on the search for food. It’s babies nest not far away. Without having the view in the photo, it really leaves more to the imagination.

~~~~~
Don’t forget to leave a little to the imagination. You never know what story they’ll get out of your picture. My question of the day for you all:
What do you see when you look at my picture of the bench? Got any photos of your own to share?
Stereotypes In Cartoons: American Dad!
Hi friends!4
While I should be getting ready to go to class, I have been spending most of my morning on my bed watching cartoons on Netflix. One of my favorite being American Dad. My inner child still has a big place in my heart for cartoons, but with a bit more of an adult aspect to them. Hence why I am watching American Dad instead of Adventure Time. Not that I am judging people who watch adventure time, it is just my own personal preference to prefer adult cartoons.
While I was watching American Dad this morning, I began to think of the portrayal of the American family in cartoons like this. The family dynamic if you will. There is the American father, who puts the father as the head of the house. In this case, Stan, the father, is a strong conservative man of the house. He is portrayed as a self-righteous, dominant male, but also as not all that smart with his ideas. Then there is Francine, portraying what is a typical American housewife. She is seen as not that bright with her ideas, and is blonde and beautiful.
Many times in the show the creators write Francine’s character to where she is independent, and does not always do what Stan wants her to. But he turns around, in complete disbelief that she’s not doing what he wants, and does something crazy in order to try to keep her under himself instead of equal. While it normally does not work out for Stan, it still shows his character as he believes he is the head of the family, and Francine is not his equal. This relationship between Stand and Francine shows a lot of the gender stereotypes that many women are fighting to break out of today.
Francine as a wife is seen to be perfect and beautiful. There was an episode talking about how if her husband would still be with her if she did not look the way she did. Having to dye her hair blonde, get waxed, work out often, and wear a retainer to keep her teeth straight. For a long portion of the episode it showed Stan not wanting to be with his wife when she was not plucked to perfection.
All of these thoughts were stuck in my head after I made this discovery. The way the American family is portrayed in cartoons is almost spot on perfect. Gender stereotypes and all.
~~~~~

So, some deep thoughts on American Dad, and what I see in the behaviors of characters haha. My question of the day for you all:

What are some deep thoughts you have on your favorite adult cartoons?

Public Speaking: Me and My Bookbag

Hi friends!

2

Photo by me

This picture was taken of my book bag right before I went to school to give my speech in my public speaking class. I spent a lot of this morning dreading the speech, and looking at this bag only made it worse. Why is that? What does my bag have to do with my speech? The answer is my speech was my book bag.

The topic we were given was to find an object to compare ourselves to, and I chose a book bag. My main reason for that choice was that I was running out of time to pick an object, and that just happened to be next to me at the time. The challenge was finding the comparisons I was going to make. It turns out that not only is making metaphors comparing a book bag to yourself is about as easy as waiting patiently for paint to dry. Considering the fact that I am not that patient of a person, you can probably guess how well I was doing. I eventually picked my comparisons, and the book bag compared to me with its many pockets, straps, and the bag overall.

The many pockets in a book bag really keep me organized. Growing up I was that kid who would have to organize my legos by size and color before I could begin to play with them. I usually spent more time organizing them than actually playing. As a college student, I keep everything in my book bag as organized as possible by putting them in the many different pockets.

While I am organized, I also am an anxious person. The straps on a book bag will begin to wear out if you put too much inside your bag. I think about too many things that are not that important, but somehow my brain makes them top priority. I will have many different things going on in my head, and eventually the anxiety will make me wear out like the straps of a heavy book bag.

The many pockets and the straps make up the book bag overall. Most people when going on an adventure pick up their bag and just go. That is what I love to do. I love to drop what I am doing, pack a bag, and go on adventure spur of the moment. Whether it be a small road trip or just getting lost down one of the many dirt roads I live around. I love to grab a bag and just go.

~~~~~
The object that I find compared the best to me was my book bag, but could have just as well been many other things. My question of the day for you all:
What object is a metaphor for your life?
Playing With Fate
Hi friends!
3
Photo by me
Bean Boozled. A game where you have a 50/50 chance of getting a good/bad flavored jelly bean. The fun part is that you will not know what you have until you taste it. Well it is all fun until that split second after the first bite that you realize your bean is one of the gross flavors. The game has been out for quite a while now. Most of my friends have played the game, and I have heard the horror stories of what happens when you get a bad flavor. However, I had been the odd one out. Sure, I wanted to play the game, but up until today I had not really ever wanted to actually purchase it. The only reason why I did play is because my sister was the one who bought the game, and asked my family to play a few rounds with her.
While I agreed to play, my thoughts were all focused on what will the bad flavors taste like? As we started to play, I managed to get lucky, and went a few rounds with good flavors. After witnessing my family getting all the bad flavors, it made me really nervous that it would happen to me soon. Sure enough I got the flavor dead fish. That was definitely not the first bad flavor I wanted to try. I spit it out right away, but the taste remained in my mouth. Like usual, the jelly bean had got stuck in my teeth, and I ended up having to gargle mouth wash a few times before I could get the taste out. Over-dramatic? Maybe. But, I certainly did not eat anymore of that colored jelly bean for the rest of the time we played.
Over the next few turns of ending up with flavors such as dog food and dirty socks, I ended up beginning to despise the little spinner. Each time it was my turn, I dreaded spinning it. It was as if someone was punishing me for having all the good turns in the beginning of the game. Then ending up with all the bad ones the last few rounds we played. Of course my family loved it, because apparently all my reactions were ridiculous and over-dramatic, but amusing to them. Although, that is kind of what I love about my family. We all laugh at each other, and do not take things so seriously. That being said, I certainly did not want to laugh after my last bean of rotten eggs.
~~~~~

Nothing is more terrifying then that damn spinner. Determining your fate. My question of the day for you all:

What is the most disgusting jelly bean you’ve tried?
